We present our new image to celebrate 100 years of life of "La Gloria Riojana", the oldest active brand of sausages and hams in Spain.

Our great-grandfather founded this company in 1900. We are very proud to keep on producing sausages and hams since then in Baños de Río Tobía, a small village in La Rioja, Spain.

A few years later, in 1921, the brand "La Gloria Riojana" was registered and is the oldest active brand of sausages and hams in Spain. In 2021 we celebrate our CENTENARY.

HISTORY

The history of Martinez Somalo is a family history. Founded in 1900 by José Martínez Campo. At that time, they started to elaborate products from the slaughtering of the pig that used to be marketed in his town and in the closest locations. The processing plant was called La Gloria Riojana in those days.

Martinez Somalo has evolved. At the moment it is being managed by the fourth family generation, but with great professionals in management positions.

We have developed new products as our “chorizo with wine” or our range of “BBQ chorizos with international flavors”, wine, Curry, Inferno, Mediterranean and Grill Arizona).

We develop our R+D+I in cooperation with the CTIC-CITA (Technological Centre of the Meat Industry in La Rioja).

More than one hundred years creating unique tastes, looking at every detail, from the birth of the pork until our chorizos and hams become a tasty and one of a kind passion. Art, health; the only way to understand a Martínez Somalo.
Our Riojano Chorizo shows percentages of unsaturated fatty acids similar to the one of the olive oil or salmon, according to Yolanda Alastrue, researcher of the University of La Rioja.
Balanced and intense aroma, persistent, with paprika preponderance, besides hints of garlic, intense flavor, lasting, balanced between lean and fat. Its proteins, of great biological value, add lots of energy. It is one of the key products of our culinary tradition.
And what can we say about the ham; basic ingredient of the Mediterranean diet, flavor and health together in one product.
The Serrano ham contains iron, zinc, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B3, vitamin B6 and vitamins of the Group D, therefore it has such a high nutritional value.
Half of its fats are unsaturated. The main fatty acid that constitutes it is the oleic acid. The olive oil is the only food that contains more of this acid than the Serrano ham.
The fats are very important in our organism, since they give us energy, build cellular structures and have fat-soluble vitamins, besides adding color and smell to the food.

We are certified with the prestigious regulations BRC “British Retail Consortium” and IFS (International Food Standard).

We also have the ETG of Jamón Serrano (Guaranteed Traditional Specialty) and are part of the Foundation of Jamón Serrano and also of the Consortium of Jamón Serrano and the Consortium of Chorizo Español, as well as the IGP (Protected Geographic Indication) of Chorizo Riojano.

We are also certified with the environment regulation 14001.

All of these certifications demand exhaustive controls during the whole production process.
